WAYS TO GIVE

Give Monthly

Make a recurring monthly gift

Are you interested in becoming a monthly donor?  Having the confidence that regular donations are coming in to the Midlands Humane Society is very important.  Plus, for those donors who regularly donate, creating a monthly gift makes giving much easier.  There is no need to log in online or remind yourself to write out a check and mail it in.  Gift amounts can be established once and then the donor can sit back and relax.  Donations can be set up in any amount.

Our needs never stop.  Some months, our pet care expenses are higher than others because animals arrive at our door needing more medical care or intervention.  We are an open admission shelter, accepting all animals from our jurisdiction.  When we have room, we also bring in animals from other shelters and cities far and wide in an effort to help not only overcrowded shelters, but also animals that desperately need a second chance.

A $5.00 gift per month totals $60.00 per year and allows us to provide monthly heartworm preventative for 6 dogs.  A $25.00 gift per month totals $300.00 per year which prepares 3 dogs for the adoption floor.  $10.00 helps cover the cost of vaccines for a kitten.  Every dollar goes towards providing life-saving care for animals in need.

History of Simba, namesake of Simba's Circle

Simba was an emaciated stray when he was found in 2002. He had multiple marks of abuse which included chain marks and cigarette burns. Simba was afraid of humans and had absolutely no reason to love them – but he did.

In fact, he became Midlands Humane Society’s (MHS) first four-legged ambassador, attending countless special events as we raised funds to build our facility and begin operations as the first Humane Society in Council Bluffs. A few of Simba's favorite activities included delivering “WAG-a-Grams” for Valentine’s Day and visiting schools and assisted living facilities. Simba was evidence that homeless pets – even those subjected to horrible abuse – are capable of providing unconditional love and their lives DO matter.

Sadly, in the fall of 2012, Simba passed away after a battle with cancer. When we opened on January 2, 2015, he didn't get a chance to wag his way through the doors of the new facility – the very place he spent most of his life promoting.

However, his legacy lives on in Simba’s Circle of Second Chances, a program designed to provide crucial funding to care for the thousands of pets who are counting on us.

For as little as $10 a month (or $120 a year) you can make a difference in this lives of these otherwise helpless animals!

History of Angel, namesake of Angel's Fund

In early January 2015, a dog was brought to our facility who was presumed dead after being hit by a vehicle. She surprised our staff when her ears perked up – she was ready to fight for her life! She received emergency care including numerous staples in her forehead. In light of her circumstances, the staff decided to name her Angel and, after weeks of recovery, Angel found her forever home on February 9.

Angel's will to live is an inspiration to us all and she represents just one of the numerous animals who require medical attention while under our care. Although our local veterinarians provide generous discounts, the expenses still add up quickly so Angel's Fund was created to help offset the costs of these very important services provided to the animals.

Medical expenses are one of the most expensive items in our nonprofit budget. Upon intake, all animals are tested for medical issues and treated accordingly by our trained professional staff. Those with more complicated medical needs are sent for outside veterinary care and, in crisis situations like Angel's, this is done on an emergency basis. In addition, if they are not spayed or neutered they undergo the surgical procedure before becoming eligible for adoption.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to help the homeless animals with their medical care - be it something as simple as de-worming or as extensive as emergency surgery and rehabilitation - please fill out our online donation form for Angel's Fund.  You can easily set up convenient, automatic monthly payments from your checking or savings account right through our website.  Please contact us for more information.

Maybe you would consider a monthly gift in the amount of $25.00, $50.00 or even $100.00?  Medical needs have no season and no time frame.  Sick and injured animals arrive at our doors on a regular basis.  Would you be there ally?
