Adoptable Dogs

A dog makes everything better!  Their loyal nature makes them a highly sought after companion.  On average, MHS has between 10 to 20 dogs on the adoption floor on any given day.  Sometimes we have even more; and they can easily searched below or via Pet Finder.  Each dog has a unique personality, along with specific breed characteristics. While we mostly have mixed-breed dogs, we do, on occasion, adopt our purebred dogs too. If you don't see your perfect match today, we recommend checking back frequently as new pets become available for adoption on a regular basis.

Adopters should be aware that most pets adopted from MHS are adopted the same day the process of adoption began. Before you adopt a dog, it is a wise idea to have the following in place:

  • Check your city, county, and landlord's (if applicable) animal restrictions. Consider the breed, size, and number of animals you are allowed to have for your living situation.
  • Communicate with all members of your household that you intend to adopt. Make sure everyone has the same preferences in terms of size, breed, gender, and energy levels.
  • Ensure there is a space in your home that will allow your new pet to decompress. This might include a kennel, or room within your home that can be sectioned off from any other pets.
  • Thanks to our partner Hills Science Diet, we will send dogs home with a small bag of dog food to get you started. Depending on the size of your adopted dog, this may only last a few days.
  • If you are not already an established client at a veterinary clinic, consider contacting local clinics to see who is accepting new clients.
  • We will send you home with a collar, although adopters will either need to bring a leash or purchase one at MHS (if available). Please avoid flexi-leads/retractable leashes.

All dog adoptions from the Midlands Humane Society include the following:

  • Spay/Neuter surgery
  • Age-appropriate vaccinations (including rabies vaccine if the dog is old enough)
  • Microchip
  • Heartworm testing (dogs 6 months +)
  • Flea, tick and heartworm preventatives
