Local Community Leaders Celebrate Groundbreaking of New Comprehensive Animal Welfare Center

Council Bluffs, IA – Midlands Humane Society, a volunteer-led group, is preparing to break ground on its state-of-the-art comprehensive animal welfare center for Council Bluffs and its surrounding communities.

The facility will offer a safe and comfortable environment for the animals, high standards of care – both physical and emotional – proactive adoption services, a dog park reflecting responsible stewardship of resources to citizens of our service area, an array of volunteer opportunities, community outreach and public education programs at the new animal shelter.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Midlands Humane Society building will take place on
May 13 at 2:00 pm at 1020 Railroad Avenue, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Speakers will include Mayor Matt Walsh and Chair
of the Board of Directors Leslie Southard. The public is encouraged to attend.

“We are thrilled to see this dream become a reality. We want to thank our donors and the community for supporting our efforts to enhance the quality of life for companion animals and those who care for them,” Southard said.

Many local organizations, financial institutions and government leaders played a role in developing this project. Partners in the project include: City of Council Bluffs, Iowa West Foundation, Red Giant Oil, Peter Kiewit Foundation, The Nelson Family Foundation and Jim Hawk.
